Cookie Policy
This Cookie Policy explains how The Zim uses cookies and similar technologies on this website (thezimseries.com and any associated subdomains, the "Site"). It supplements our Privacy Policy.
1. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file stored in your browser when you visit a website. Cookies are widely used to make sites work, to remember preferences, and to provide statistics or advertising. Where this policy refers to "cookies," we mean cookies and similar browser technologies (local storage, session storage, pixels).
2. Your choices
When you first visit the Site, we ask whether you want to allow optional analytics cookies. You can change your choice any time using the controls in the box below.
3. Categories of cookies
Strictly necessary (always on)
These are required for the Site to function safely. Disabling them may cause the Site to fail to load or to repeatedly issue security challenges.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
__cf_bm | Cloudflare | Bot management — distinguishes humans from automated requests to protect the Site from abuse. | ~30 minutes (rolling) |
cf_clearance | Cloudflare | Records that a visitor has passed a security challenge so they aren't repeatedly challenged. | Up to 1 year |
zim_gate | The Zim | During pre-launch, records that you've entered the access password so you aren't asked again on this device. | 30 days |
zim-theme (local storage) | The Zim | Remembers whether you chose light or dark appearance. | Until cleared |
zim-consent (local storage) | The Zim | Records your choice from the consent banner so we don't ask again. | Until cleared |
Analytics (optional — only with your consent)
If you allow analytics, we load Microsoft Clarity to understand how the Site is used (which sections people read, where they click, where they get stuck) so we can improve it. Clarity may also capture anonymized session replays of mouse movement and clicks; it does not record form fields by default. Clarity is owned and operated by Microsoft.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_clck | Microsoft Clarity | Persists a Clarity user ID and preferences for the same Site. | 1 year |
_clsk | Microsoft Clarity | Connects multiple page views by a single user into a session. | 1 day |
CLID | Microsoft Clarity | Identifies the first time Clarity saw this user on any site using Clarity. | 1 year |
ANONCHK | Microsoft Clarity | Indicates whether the MUID has been transferred to ANID; used for ad-impression tracking on Bing. | 10 minutes |
MR / MUID / SM | Microsoft | Used by Microsoft to identify unique web browsers visiting Microsoft sites and to measure / analyze usage. | Up to 1 year |
If you decline, none of these cookies are set and no Clarity script is loaded.
4. Third-party requests (no cookies set)
The Site loads webfonts from Google Fonts when you open a page. Google does not set tracking cookies in this delivery flow, but it does receive technical request data (IP, user-agent) to deliver the font files.
5. Cookies we do not set
- No advertising or remarketing cookies.
- No social-network tracking pixels.
- No personalization or A/B testing cookies.
- No cross-site tracking.
6. Managing cookies in your browser
In addition to the controls above, you can manage cookies in your browser:
- Safari: Settings → Safari → Privacy & Security → Block All Cookies.
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data.
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data.
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage cookies.
Blocking essential cookies may prevent the Site from loading correctly.
7. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control
Optional analytics only runs after you explicitly accept it.
We honor Global Privacy Control (GPC) signals. If your browser sends GPC (Brave, Firefox with GPC enabled, DuckDuckGo, etc.), we treat optional analytics as declined automatically — no banner is shown and no analytics script is loaded. You can still flip the preference manually using the controls above if you change your mind.
The older Do Not Track header is treated as guidance; GPC and the explicit consent banner are the authoritative controls.
8. Changes to this policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. The "Updated" date above reflects the most recent revision.
